Thanks Doug. I am just removing an old Harrison from a mate's 1983 V12 Coupe. Can you please explain for me what the plug thingy is for that goes into the round hold below the main hose ports? On this 1983 car it has a wire attached to it. I have the three pronged thermal cutout, does this just get omitted and one wire to earth?

I intend to swap a Sanden in place of the Harrison, any guidance about what is involved would be a real help.
Thanks
Greg

For the Sanden, you'll be wanting some different brackets and a little tip: Volvo used the Sanden SD510 in the 940 and 960 series. Mainly on the 2.4l diesel. They go for sod all (like here: Volvo 940 Kombi 2,4D 90-95 Klimakompressor für Hersteller SANDEN SD510 | eBay)

The plug thingy, in your case, is the superheat switch.

If you are converting from a Superheat system to an HSLP system you simply run a wire from the HSLP switch to one of the posts on the compressor clutch. The other post on the compressor clutch gets 12v + from the climate control system. You can just use the 12v wire from the 3-wire harness that goes to the thermal fuse....probably green/brown

No help, sorry. I don't know what type of protection circuit it uses

Thanks Doug. But what did the superheat switch do, please? Does it trip out when the unit overheats or what?
So, if I understand this correctly, as far as getting power to the Sanden goes, it is the live from the themo cutout unit? And this live is switched by the aircon unit?

So on conversion can I just tape off the superheat plug thingy?
Thanks

I think the switch is to cut the A6 out (dis engage the clutch) if there A6 notices no pressure i.e. a leak in the system.

Right, it trips at xxx-temperature (220ºF I think) and grounds the 3 prong fuse, causing the fuse to blow

Yes. One of the wires in connector to the 3-prong fuse is the 12v + "live" wire from the aircon unit. On an XJS this live wire is actually from the compressor relay, but same idea

On all the older Jags I've seen the wiring associated with the 3-prong fuse and superheat switch is a sub-harness that can simply be removed.
