Default Ac, blowers, wipers, washers, aerial not working

Fuse #11 seems OK - so do they all! Any ideas? I cant see that all those components would use a single relay.

Welcome to the Forums.

Please do an Intro in the New Members Area when sorted.

You are in AU, its a BIG place, which bit would help.

Your 1986 XJS would have the main fuse block, above your knees, and a 2nd, above the passengers knees, and then the small one on the LH side of the engine bay.

I would suggest not looking at the fuses, PULL them, one at a time, clean the Copper prongs, and replace the fuses with new. I have had them test fine with the DVM, and still not pass current. Pay particular attention to that 50amp sucker, any contamination of the prongs etc will melt the fuse holder, dumb I know, but it is what it is.

The owners handbook lists what fuses do what.

Further to Grant's excellent advice, the copper sprung holders each end of the fuse can become so weak that even with a new fuse and careful cleaning, they fail to make good contact. What i had to do on a friend's car was to delicately insert a tiny 2 or 3 mm diameter tube of silicone - obtained by stripping it off some silicone-insulated cable - between the outside of one copper holder and the outside of the next one; effectively forcing the copper holders together more firmly.

Thanks to those who replied. Ive since replaced fuse #11 and still no go. The fuse box etc still looks like new - wiring diagrams are a anathema to me - what's downstream of the fuse between the components that would fail?

Hi Jacko5711,

As Grant suggested, checking and cleaning every fuse at some point is a good idea.

Does your horn work? That should go through #11. For your issues, there are a few fuses to consider (given yours are the same as my '87).

Note: I am referencing three sources (Electrical Data Chart, Owners Handbook and Repair Operation Manual) and they differ slightly (of course).

Main Box:
#3 - aerial (plus others)
#9 - wiper motor
#10 - blower motors (or possibly just right side)

Aux Box:
#5 - may be left side blower or fog lights

There also may be an inline fuse near the aerial motor.
