Default Aftermarket (temp) gauges? (Realguage vs. Bluetooth)

Hi everyone, I've read several conversations on the forums about realgauge and Bluetooth gauges (Panlong Bluetooth OBD2 on Amazon). Problem is, these conversations are for later model cats.

I've got an 1984 XJS with a Chevy LT1 under the bonnet and my gauges, of course, don't tell me much. I overheated the other day and now that summer is coming, I worry about being able to monitor the temperature. Other options would be nice too.

Does the realgauge work on older Jags? I'm really interested in the Bluetooth, having one set up on an android tablet would be the best option for me, but is it possible? I wasn't able to find an OBD1 version of Bluetooth adapter.

Any insight and opinions are greatly appreciated! I'm open to any other options and possibilities as well, so if you have done something different, Id love to hear it.

A 1984 xjs is not going to have any version of OBD. Most practical way of getting working gauges might be to adapt the original jag senders to your Chevy motor and utilise the original gauges.

Im not sure I understand your reasoning, I recently replaced a knock sensor that went bad and tracked it down by using an ODB1 scanner.

The reasoning is that no standard XJS of that year would have any ODB systems. However, your car isn't standard, of course - I assume you have a second gen LT1 with OBDII?

turns out, you guys are correct, my current ecm does not support or does not monitor eng coolant temp, oil pressure, etc. So does anyone have any suggestions for older school gauges that you've used?

Most of the old school gauges that we sell require a regular mechanical sender, so you can find a custom sender for the gauges on your dash or custom fit new gauges with classic design. You can check our section of standard and aftermarket gauges, perhaps you'll find something interesting for your XJS:

Are you aware of any aftermarket outfit making a tachometer for 12 cylinder engines? I've looked, briefly, but came up empty.

Cheers

I got rid of that "trip computer" and put three Auto Meter gauge's in there. Two coolant & a oil pressure. The two temps have the sensors in each water rail via weld in bungs. I can't speak for your engine but the concept of keeping an eye on your engine would be the same
