Hi, my smog control pump is lock up on my 86 xjs... can I eliminated it and reroute the a/c belt.. or is it really need it for performance... Thanks for your time

 

Depending on market (and year perhaps), many cars only have a tensioner pulley there, so you could replace it with that. From what I gather, that pump only works when the engine is cold, and performance shouldn't suffer, but if you have to have your car emissions tested on a regular basis, there might be an issue there.
