another one bites the dust?
well, my worst fears are confirmed.
the 89 v12 i picked up a few weeks ago is beyond repair. at least for my skillset. it is indeed rusted through on the underside.
i suppose i'm lucky the entire rear end didn't fall out driving it home. the brakes did decide to quit after 100 miles and so i flatbedded it to a lift. that confirmed the worst.
i'm not going to be able to restore this at all. dont have the time, the space, or the welding equipment/skills/knowledge/anything to repair the corrosion.
engine seems to run alright though. ah well. anyone have interest in big project before i consider parting-out?

im so thankful that mine has been just electrical issues so far.

trust me, no one's more bummed than i am. it's so nice to look at. rust and all.
similar to your story the drive home was all i've had in her. and it was great.
if there was a safe way to drive it to wv i'd consider a road trip to deliver it.
but the brake situation and potential for the tail end to rip out is real. dont think i want to even start trying to get it road worthy.
washer bottle and tps are yours if i do part it.

that video is going on my hard-drive.
PM me on prices for the front spoiler, TPS, bottle, and injectors, if you decide to part it out.
i had the same problem with my brakes on the way home. ill be rebuilding the master cylinder once its running good.

its is a shame about Jaguar XJ s, i have been given for free 3 of them, because of rust problems, or nobody can spend the money to make them run.
my own XJS roadster, was given to me, just to drag it away,.
$30,000. 2 1/2 yrs later , its a great car, course back then,16yrs, i had good cash flow. now retired.
but realisticly, you just gotta love them,, its the poor mans dream, to make a SILK purse out of a SOWS ear! you gotta have some humor in this thing.

I am very sorry about your misfortune.
Your experience is why I always advise folks looking to buy an XJS to run away as fast as they can from cars with "needs". Buy the cleanest best maintained car you can possibly afford. There are far too many well cared for XJSs available that make avoiding dogs with fleas easy.

yes, went to a reputable vintage jag/porsche guy who happens to love xjs's. he even has a perfect facelift 6cyl.
he said he wouldnt let me put any money into it. and i should keep hunting. the floorboards have rusted through completely.
the redhead is my ladyfriend who isnt too pleased i let her behind the wheel of such a potential disaster...

The best part about your Car is that you clearly see, you can't miss, as plain as the nose on my face. It's a great parts car! Don't love the car, love what it can do for the next one.
Have fun and take it apart. Do don't forget to lable the parts as you stack them.
Thanks for reminding me how good bad can be.

My Cat tranny and stuff, Help!
Can anyone tell me about my XK8 auto trans. runs smooth but it is possible to shift so fast in a park lot and get a clunk. I am easy on cars but a mach. said the tranny was soon to go out. Really?
also, no heat. being summer in San Fransisco bay area, that,s not a problem so much. but I would like to fix it. By the by. it has a new( 2) days old water pump, the problem is not new. Whadayathink?
Thank,s Deano

it does have some nice parts. the engine itself seems to be running smooth and strong. its such a beautiful car.
the trans is a little clunky shifting, the brake accumulator is shot, the rotors are warped, the suspension is made of chewing gum, and the structure might as well be paper.
alas... look for some activity in the for sale section soon (i think). i'll also follow up to this thread. (mods keep me honest here.)
