Default Any guys familiar with Motorcraft XG-12 Electrical grease?

Hello guys;

Ever since I had my old ECU go bad on my 95 XJS AJ16 last year due to water leaking in and corroding pins, I have made it regular practice to check the ECU connectors regularly for signs of water, corrosion and water entry. Although the entry point at the engine has been sealed with silicone, still I feel more comfortable checking periodically. I put lots of dielectric grease on the outside of the connectors after they are mated, but since they are multi-pin, I have been reluctant to use dielectric on the pins directly since I fear it will decrease the connection

Anyway, I came across this Motorcraft XG12 grease for electrical connectors which uses on the ECU connectors of some of their vehicles which have been recalled due to to water entry. Its different than dielectric grease in feel and color and my understanding is that it can and should be dumped all over multi-pin connectors and will have no adverse effect other than protecting against corrosion

So I went ahead and bought a tube of it and dumped quite a bit inside the connectors themselves pins and all, ECU side and connector side , to the point where a little squeezed out when I matted them.

Has anyone used or is familiar with this?
I kind of regretted going all crazy with it after I did, but the technician who services my Mercury at the Lincoln dealership assures me that they dump it into multi-pin connectors of Lincoln/Mercury models with known possibilities of water ingress.

Thanks!!

I have used di-electric grease by CRC in both of my cars for years. The trick to using it properly is to be sure that the strike value of each pin is good and using it in moderately. I am not familiar with the grease you are talking about but the product I use is placed on every connection I come in contact with and to date my poltergeist is almost nonexistent. It is not totally gone but it is an ongoing process. This is a link of an ongoing yea and nay on the subject. MAF and Throttle body cleaning - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum I also have information on my page you are welcome to use. I hope this helps.

I did fail to say I use CRC contact cleaner first.

Hey Gus!!!!

Thanks for the reply.

I have avoided using the regular parts store di electric grease on pins themselves because I have always feared a poor connection, although my understanding is that while dielectric grease is not a conductor neither is it a inhibitor, so a film of it won't hurt contacts. Since everyone and their mom has an opinion about how to correctly use di electric grease and I sure as hell am no specialist, I have avoided using it, but this Motorcraft XG12 is supposed to be designed to be globbed on the connectors, specifically multi pin ECU connectors

The way I see it is if I have a good contact and I use it and the car runs great after the application then it is ok. What it will do for me is keep the water and corrosion and corona out and that it important to me. Let me know how your stuff works because I am interested.

Anything to eliminate the Poltergeist in these cars!!!!!

Take a look at this

I have a 2004 Ford freestar. The computer gets - FixYa

If I did know better I think we were talking about the same produce with a different name and color.

Yup,, that's it Gus. as a matter of fact one of the posters mentions it by name in your link. Tht is exactly what the tech at the Lincoln dealer said..they use it on ECU connectors of models that suffer from water drips..

So far mine is doing just fine. I also used some high temp industrial tsilver thermal grease on the ground strap, but this SHOULD NOT be used on any multi-pin connectors as its conductive and will short them out.

I was hoping that someone had used it on their XJS to get a little more info on it.
