Default Anyone using Redline 0W30 on their AJ16

Hello all!!

I have a 95 AJ16 N/A engine with 103K miles, in Houston TX (25F-a lot of 100F). She has been running on Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W30 for a couple of years...when I switched over to synthetic the oil cooler rings and hoses leaked, but they where replaced, and she has been dry ever since.

I have been doing a lot of research , have been on bobistheoilguy forums, and I have determined that I want to switch from the Mobil 1 High mileage 10W30 over to Redline 0W30. I am now convinced that running any synthetic over 5W, even in my weather is not productive at all, and I think my engine will benefit tremendously al cold start up.

The only thing that is holding me back is that I do not know how seals will react going from the M1 HM over to the Redline. If I can not get enough data, at the very least I am going over to the Mobil 1 High Mileage 5W30 year round...But again, what I want is to do the Redline 0W30.

Are any members in this forum running Redline 0W30 on their N/A AJ16's??

Thanks all

I don't think it is good for an old fashioned engine like AJ16s, especially when it is hot.
They have larger piston clearance than nowadays engines do, so they will like thick oil like 10W-40 or 20W-50.
I used 10W-30 in summer in Japan once, I was not impressed at all... Much blow by gas stuck on the throttle valve, noise from chain tensioner, etc...
When I changed it into 10W-40 they all stopped.

I run Mobil 1 15W/50 year round in my two AJ16 engined Jags and I've been very happy. I'd stay with a heavier oil.

hello Japthug and Roger!!

I really appreciate your real life experiences.

While I do agree that the Wxx number might matter, I think the xxW might not so much.

I think a thicker oil should be a 0W40. from what I have been finding out the xxW number is only how thick it is at start up. And I also think that the REDLINE 0w30 might even be thicker than my current 10W30 at operating temperature. The only difference is lubrication at start up will be better with the 0W or 5W.

If anyone here has used 0W REDLINE on their cars please post. I am pretty much sold on the viscosity, and the protection, the only thing I want to know is its effect on our seals.

I've been using Redline 0w30 in my AJ6 '94 since october and have had nary a leak. It's supposed to be the best cleaning oil out there so I'll see when it comes to chaning it next october.
