Default 95 4 liter AJ16 shifting hard

Hello all!!

My AJ16 XJS is shifting hard when coming out of a stop and I am feeling kickdown a little too much. Ever since I have owned the car it has done this on and of , just seems to go away on its own. Do you all know if my transmission is still controlled by a cable?? I imagine that is the problem

Thanks !!

is it vaccum modulated such as the th400? if so, a loss in vaccum pressure from a leak or such, a disconnected vaccum hose, or a bad vaccum diaphragm will cause MAXIMUM line pressure in a vaccum momdulated transmission, such as the TH400.
this will cause hard upshifts and downshifts.

Thanks all for the replies. I do not know what is causing it but its been shifting poorly even in higher gear.

I think the ZF is mostly electronic, but if it still has a cable, that may be the culprit, I think

what do you mean by cable? there are still plenty of transmissions with electronic valvebodies that use vacuum to control line pressure and shift firmness.
4t60e is a perfectly good example.
