Arrrrgh! oh well......
My wifes car needs new tires and she needed to drive around alot today, so I lent her my XJS. I kept the 996 and had fun with the last bit of tread. So I had fun. But once I came home she gave me bad news. She pulled up to a parking space instead of backing up, and when she backed up she cracked the crap out of the car's lip. I know this was a common occurence with people back in the 90's, after the facelift cars hit the market. Anyway mine is being held up by silver duct tape at the moment. Chances are she'll never drive my Jag again(ok by me) but I did enjoy seeing her drive away this morning. Oh well..... Just venting. I'll find a good shop tomorrow morning. Thanks!

Yes it is quite pointless in the grand scheme of things. Since we're on the subject, what cars tend to have marelli failures? I have a 94 4.0 and I'm curious to know more about my ignition system. In reality, I do feel better, I just have to find black duct tape ASAP since I'm prolly gonna be out of an XJS for a couple of days. I'm sure I wouldve cracked at some point, LA is not nice to cars. But please do tell me more about this Marelli failure

It is the 89 to about 93/4 V12, this covers the later 5.3 and early 6.0, Jaguar went to a version of Fords EDIS in the last of the 6.0's. If a coil or ignitor fails it is possible for a Catalytic converter to overheat and burn due to being flooded with raw fuel.
I know my car had this failure many years ago with the previous owner. Funny thing when he was telling about the failure he said he was talking to the Jaguar technician who told him to the vacuum module in the dissy. When he pulled the top off the dissy there was only a rotor in there. It took a while to fix as Jag were unaware of the Marelli ignition, The car was only a couple of years old then.
It did not burn only a lack of power was the symptom.
Sorry to hear about the mishap - get her fixed and she'll be good as new

Totally understand your frustration on that low lip. It's even worse when you do the damage yourself. I drive my daily driver and my two Jaguars and sometimes I forget what car I am in and what proportions I am dealing with. Whenever I source a new bumper I will have sensors installed on it to prevent from cracking it
