Default Audible Warning Buzzer Relay

The audible warning buzzer only operates when the keys are left in the ignition. I think the alarm is also to activate if the lights are left on and the seatbelt warning. What is the warning buzzer to indicate? Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the warring system? The buzzer is also very annoying. Has anyone changed the buzzer out to a softer dinging bell like most current cars and what parts were used?

Key in ignition, seat belt. No headlamp warning

Not that I've looked but I just gotta think that most any tone alarm you could want is available on the aftermarket.

Cheers

I used a BMW gong, as shown in the youtube video below. I used the repeating gong that is at the connection next to the red positive lead in the video. I got the gong off ebay. I've replaced buzzers in an XJS and two Mercedes with this mod.Jon

nice. I like the separate connections for the separate sounds the jaguars have separate wires for the separate sounds? It should have chimes tones and ticks (at least on my s type), right? Do jags have different speakers for all three or do they use something similar to the bmw gong?

My XJS just had a single buzzer. No idea about other models.

Thank you for the information and suggestions. I just ordered the BMW warning relay. It will sound a lot better and I will probably use different sounds for the seat belts, keys in ignition when driver's door is open and headlights If I don't install an automatic shut off of the exterior lighting. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the seatbelt warning system?

I just looked up all of the recalls for my car by the VIN number. One of the recalls is the automatic (passive) seat belt reel assembly. The seatbelts do not always reel up all the way. The recall is for the lifetime of the car. The car repair has to be performed by the Jaguar dealership at no cost and they have to replace the system by law.

Right !

Mostly.

If you look at the actual recall bulletin it's not the system but, rather, selected parts that will be replaced.

The problem has been parts availability. For years and years there were no parts. Then, a few years ago (five? eight?) Jaguar made parts available to dealers. Not sure what the present day status is. I suspect that the original supplier went defunct ages ago and Jaguar has now difficulty finding someone to make the parts for them. How hard they're trying is up for debate.

Cheers

I will contact the local dealerships today and let you know what they say. This was my dad's car that he purchased new. The driver's side seatbelt warning system is plugged into a harness but the passenger's side is not. I think the car is missing some wiring to get the system operational again. I have ordered two new seatbelts with the short wiring harness that should plug into a main harness under the center console back to the alarm system. Do you know where I can find the drawings for the seatbelt warning system?

Best regards,

Patrick,
I remember the "XJS Book" has a description on how to connect a buzzer between the ignition and headlight switch.
I do like the BMW gong. Definitely going to go with the gong since I currently have the annoying radio shack buzzer.
