Default Auto Transmission Selector - 84 XJS

Greetings

just recently i have noticed the auto trans selector has become very stiff, it is selecting ok, so is there any points that need lubrication on the selector or is it in the trans that the problem might be ... the transmission is working fine .... any and all advice welcome on this one ...!

all good

There a couple pf pivots down under the console lid that are probably dry by now.
One is the actual lever pivot, the other is the cable attachment pivot.

The cable itself may be binding, RARE, but possible.

Nothing inside the trans that I could point at.

I agree with Grant.

One thing to check for on general principles:

Are the engine grounds tight and clean? Here's why I ask:

If the grounds are compromised the current will seek out another ground path.....which might end up being the shift cable, throttle cable, or any other "thing" that current can flow through. If this happens the resultant heat can play hell on your shift cable.

Cheers
DD

Thanks Grant and Doug for the advice on this one ... will be a weekend job with a glass of red to take the ski slope out and check the engine grounds.

ps ... any tricks to getting the ski slope / console lid out ...?

all good

thanks Grant and Doug .... it was the lower pivot on the selector .... everything else got a check over while i was in the console and was ok.. freed it up with CRC then worked a little oil into it .... also checked the engine grounds which looked ok but got a tidy up any way ... all good and thanks again.
