bad idea to solder oxygen sensor leads?
I had the car at the mechanic a few weeks ago for new rear shocks and brakes, and while it was in the air I had them try and remove the oxygen sensors. They said they were stuck and wouldn't come off. I took it home, sprayed them with WD40 and waited 2 weeks. They are now off.
Looking at the instructions on my new Bosch "Premium Oxygen Sensors", I see that one of the installation warnings is (in bold black letters) "Do NOT solder wires. Soldering wires will lead to early sensor failure".
Really? Why would this be? The distance from where I would solder to the sensor is a good 18 inches or so. Is the concern that heat conducting down the wire will effect a component inside the sensor?
Thanks,
John
