Default Best way to check AC compressor coil?

Hey guys,

I wanted to start the assembly of my A6 compressor. As I have to use my old coil, I want to check it to make sure I haven't got to pull it again...

So, continuity check seems a good base idea. If I can't get current through it, it won't work. But that doesn't mean the coil will actually work properly.

Would a resistance check work? If yes, does anyone have the Ohm readings of a working coil? Or would somebody be friendly enough to get a simple multimeter on their coil and check how the resistance is between the two spade connectors?

Cheers!

Damien

Yes, a resistance check will work just fine. My spare compressor has a resistance of ~13 ohms.

Hmm, my coil has 3 ohms. Just checked it and it seems fine... Put it on the front cylinder head of the compressor, Poker the pulley on and then tried the clutch. All sticks quite well together. So I guess it is okay but then again, why are my readings so low?

Sure, my multimeter could be at fault... It isn't the most precise and is a mix between an analog and a digital one... Haven't used it for a long time neither...

The contacts were dirty on my compressor too. It was on an awkward shelf and I measured as best I could, so the true resistance could be lower - or simply sample to sample variations. I believe there was lots of variants of clutches over the years.

It seems to work... I'll give it a lick of paint and fine
