The Blue Goose: Adventures of a first time Jag owner
Well the cruise was a success today. Traversed the Maleny Montville area up in the hinterland. Beautiful day and beautiful scenery.
She really doesn't disappoint and drives absolutely beautiful. I am so pleased with my purchase time and time again.
I took wifey with me today and she hasnt been much a fan of the Goose but I think after today she changed her mind. She commented how comfortable it was as a passenger and about the leg room. (She has long legs!) So that was a plus. Boys I think the car is also a little turn on
he he he he
She drove beautiful on the highway there also. Doing about 100km/hr running flat she had about 2400 RPM. ( Does that sound about right?)
Once we got up there we started with coffee in Maleny followed by some photo ops at Lake Baroon. Then it was off to the Montiville chocolate shop before finishing at the Terraces for lunch. (For those familiar with the area)
I also got to test out the low gear (2) today and she didn't disappoint. Running down some of the steep hills i dropped her down to 2 and she pulled back with me barely having to brake at all.
All in all a ripper day.
P.S The soundtrack today:
....80's baybee!!

aww thank Greg. Not only is it my first Jag but my first "own" car.
The first car I drove was the car my Mrs gave me (i was 19) when she got a new one. A Mazda 626 84 model that was just about broke when I got it. From then on in, we got married and bought practical family cars (1 between us
) up until now. (Still a young fella at 34
)
So in a way its like my first car
I am told the color of the Goose as per the official color guide is Sapphire Blue Metallic color code JEC
jaguar paint codes chart
Yeah i really like the color also. Racing Green was my first preference but now the Blue has really grown on me.

I started looking for a BRG or a dark blue XJ,ended up with silver and planned to paint it Green, now it will be repainted silver when it eventually happens.
lol Paris Hilton car...those poor...poor....cars....
cheers Greg. Yeah i like the blue also. It looks like for the year (85) there was two bluish option. Cobalt and Sapphire Blue.
Unfortunately Jaguar didnt offer pink lol!
The closest looks like was a Bordeaux Red Metallic Clearcoat but was'nt offered until the 87 model.
Heh so I forgot to mention the other day. After my cruise I took up in the hinterland, noticing the fuel economy. Keeping in mind, mine is a HE but still, I dont think the efficiency is as bad as I first thought it would be at all. Really suprised in fact(for a V12). The trip I took must of taken about 1/4 of the tank or less, and it was quite alot of cruising all day. Very cool considering the cost of the Hi Octane fuel.
Also, I have made an observation:
I have noticed the Goose doesnt turn heads (yet) from the opposite sex (ok maybe once or twice) but what I do notice is the Goose gets 50+ males turning their heads the most.
It would seem, in my neighborhood at least, that these fellas appreciate a thing of beauty, but maybe young blokes and sheilas dont really appreciate a classic car that isnt loud and obnoxious? Dunno just my first thoughts. I did notice one Sheila checking it out the other day with her Hubby whilst i had it parked out front of a restaurant, but that is the only one I caught!
Oh....and whilst parked out front a coffee shop today, somebody called it a Mustang...SAY WHAT??!!!
JEC, JDM...so close! My mistake. Either way, I haven't seen very many blue ones at all and I think they look great.

You had better hope your wife never logs on here by mistake and sees this post. After all the drama of acquiring this car we would hate to be informed that you met with a serious mishap of some sort.
Women are a jealous lot. Handle yours with care. At the Very Least be more discrete!
(';')
Pauls right. Only older guys notice this car. A few older women.
But the important part is, I notice this car. I wasnt a fan of flying buttresses at first, but what a profile.

I disagree - women, children, men of all stripes. XJS is not a flashy car, but it gets a LOT of attention (in my experience). You guys should try black on black.
And agreed 100% regarding the flying buttresses. So sexy

After this I decided to pay attention to who might be turning their head for a Goose flying by. It appears only the 50+ fellas have an appreciation for what is an elegant work of art (in my hood at least)

But what surprises me though is the young guys, 20 ish "P" platers that notice it,had quite a few thumbs up on the freeway from them.
I am noticing over the years of owning a XJS that mine is getting more and more looks. Not unusual to be driving down the freeway and have a vehicle pass me and then slow down and ride next to my car and the pull forward a little so as to get a good view of the car at all angles.
Color and whether XJS is a coupe or a convertible has a factor in how the car is perceived. To me certain colors on this body really stand out and some say elegant and classy while others shout sporty and sexy. I have a friend who has a light green one the same year and model as mine and while they are parked next to each other I have had car enthusiast ask what is the difference in the year built etc. of our cars. Now mind you both are same year and both are convertibles but the light green XJS parked next to the solid red looks like two different cars and to be honest since both are 95 models I like the look of the taillight package on the solid red but on the light green not so much.
Seems like as every year passes the XJS is becoming a classic in it's own right and getting noticed and admired by all age groups. I have noticed that my red one gets a certain type of attention from all age groups even younger kids and teenagers who see the solid red as more sporty and fast. My wife's dark blue one gets attention but seems more women are drawn to the dark blue XJS.

My son always loved muscle cars, but he gets his learners in November and can't wait to get around in the XJ6. But that is probably because he knows it's Mums Mazda3 or my Jeep or Jag to learn to drive in,I know which I would prefer.
There was that metallic cat food colour, Rose Bronze SDL...
Took the Blue Goose on another cruise today and bought another XJS
(I have a thing for toy cars as well) It was a nice day for cruisin the sunny coast, even had an old fella approach ME in the car park and was talking Jags, as he used to own an X-Type. (See its the old dudes round my way! lol)
BTW, I have been having a few minor niggly problems with my speedo. If anybody can offer some advice i started a post here:

Other than that, I've got till next Tuesday to drive her then its back off shore. I will be watching intently on all your posts, watching with envy as mine sits in the garage for a month
Speaking of which. I have a battery disconnect switch on mine. I was gonna kill it for a month whilst I was away. Do you guys think I might need to keep that battery on charge or you think she'll be right for 28 days?
Clarke I know you got a pretty cool charger from Jaycar. You wouldnt happen to have the part number for that again mate?
And finally, thought I might share this clip from a movie i cant find on DVD called Speed Zone (Cannonball Run 3)Any body know where I can get a copy?
