I'd only ever use it once, to embarrass my father-in-law...and if that ain't worth the price if install, you've never been married.

What's the issue with the ECU?

I can't imagine it's as bad as forced induction - which by all accounts is the best way to go, but good God the $$$$$...you probably couldn't even put a price tag on it until you had it done, and by then you're homeless and divorced.

What about a can of that octane booster I see at Pep Boys, or one of those magnets on the fuel line? They say 50 hp boost right there!

Or maybe just a Type-R sticker and a grapefruit-shooter exhaust...

lol. that octane booster only boost octane by 0.05.

10% ethanol (which is 100 octane) only boosts the overall octane by 1.

90% 88 octane gasoline, with 10% 100 octane ethanol = 89 octane.

Real headers are designed based on the engine specs, particularly the camshaft. When I built my XKEV12 race car I wound up using 27 feet of tubing. Each tube has to be the same exact length. If the tubes aren’t equal length they aren’t headers just tubular manifolds with no potential for gain.
The stock manifolds aren’t bad. There are 4 of them and each weighs 4 pounds for a total of 16 pounds. 27 feet of tubing will weigh more,
a friend who did a before and after found a gain of slightly less than 5% over the stock manifolds but with larger diameter tailpipes.
Assuming 300 horsepower that’s an additional 15 horsepower.

I’m looking for cam profiles on a Jaguar forum and failed to notice the dates. Now I’m embarrassed.

There was someone on one of these Jaguar sites that impressed me with logic. Obviously knew a whole lot.
British camshafts are designed for gasoline. American cams are designed for pushrods. Offenhauser made some short stroke boosted engines that run on alcohol. I tried to find that profile but can’t find it. Bought every book, spent countless hours on the computer, Sorta in a spiral trying to solve this.

dont know if this helps, when CRANE Cams was regrind my cams, they did not have custom profile,so we sat down and they spent some time going over many profiles !

what my cams now have is a profile from 1974 PORSCHE NA flat six engine!

seem to work great no problems 26yrs , good mid range torque , run out to 6500/7000rpm , and they recommended new factory springs shimmed .060!

some info about port air flow , dyno tests show that and 3mm oversize inlet valve is close equivelent .050 more valve lift,!

The best American cams will come out of Crower. Crower worked closely with Group 44 and even had some heads cast in Aluminum to optimize flow.
Interesting that most cam profiles are based on Ford Flatheads. Since their profiles are direct acting like overhead cams. Lift, duration, LSA, all vary according to the application.
But those Ford Flathead profiles come from Miller engines. And the Offenhauser Engine was a Miller design purchased when Miller declared bankruptcy.
Since todays race motors tend to use E85. Starting with the camshaft from the late Drake/ Offenhauser is a good starting point. It used alcohol and turbo charging on a short stroke motor. And made over 1000 horsepower. Which incidently has the same stroke as the 5.3 Jaguar V12.
