Default Bumper push back mod.

There has been discussion of drilling out the 5mph bumpers and draining the "ooze" out the push them back for a more "euro" look. The more I look at mine the more I can see the extended piece tapers in which seems as if it would leave a pretty healthy "gap" between the corner black pieces and the extended black pieces once this mod was performed. Does anyone have a picture of the front and rear bumpers after this mod was done? Thanks

I don't have a pic handy but the mod does create a gap as you describe, primary seen when looking straight on, but not seen when looking from the side.

With some heat and bending.....er...um....a "pressure adjustment".....the shape/taper/fit of the side pieces might be tucked inwards a bit. Haven't tried that.

IMHO even if the gap can be reduced the overall improvement still make the mod worthwhile.

Someone posted an alternative to the drilling method. It's in the Series I-II-III section somewhere

Cheers

I'm just about to start the same mod. I saw that as well. I hope the gap isn't to big. If so I have a spare front bumper assembly and I will take the plastic from there and have it welded the the existing plastic. Hopefully the gap isn't that big. I'll take photo when done and post.

Would love to see a pic before you fill the gap if that's a possibility. Been considering this mod for a while.

pix of my bumpers front and rear, 21yrs ago, sorry i'm late!
i had to completly mod all the under mounting stuff, the long heavy tubes are now just light weight exhaust tubing, and homemade sheet metal pieces!
the actual rubbers are bolted to them.

but the floating center is back just about even with the top rubber, i didnt copy anyone it just looked better to my eyes, old fashioned hot rodder,i guess.

pic of one of my TEE shirts, bought it 1998 at Daytona/Rolex 24 hrs, vendor!

makes a lot more sense today, wish i had bought a 1/2 dozen, only paid $8. dollars, at TWR tent!
