Default cam cover gasket sealant

hello everyone, finally started the cam cover gasket and half moon replacement. Was wondering if I needed to use a gasket maker/sealant on the cam covers and half moons. The cam cover gaskets I order I believe are the Gortex ones, looks like a piece of thin sandwiched between two rubbery pieces, and using the alum half moons. Also thought I read somewhere to use new cam cover bolts?

I don't use any sealant with the Gortex gaskets. I do use a decent smear of Permatex #2 on the half moons.

I've never used new bolts and have had no problems, personally.

Others will chime in with their own experiences.

Cheers

The cam cover, was supposed to be my winter project but it's just too cold in the garage to get anything done so far. But I have been reading up on it in preparation. On page 62 of "the book", Kirby talks all about the cover bolts. However, Doug has the real experience, all I've done is read about it.
Question for Doug though (if you don't mind a bit of a hijack). Did you have to go in afterwards and re-tighten the bolts, or did you use some kind of locking washers or Loctite?

Now you're really taxing my memory :-)

I think I might've used those 'internal tooth' type lockwashers. Or maybe that's what the original bolts are fitted with? I can't remember for sure. But I do know I never went back and re-tightened.

Cheers
