Default Can't find the ONE. Its very frustrating !

Been looking for a 1996 XJS for a while now and I can't seam to find the ONE !

After month of re-searching the internet I did find one in Denver a Black on Black with 40k miles for $14.9 but the car sold before I could gather all my thoughts. Plus I believe it was over priced....

Finding a low mileage ( under 50k) 1996 XJS that is not Green, Red or Jade is almost impossible .
I have to admit that I was also considering a 1995 but like the Celebration interior better..Plus it has the be a 2+2
I even contacted few of "friends" at several dealer ship across the nation and nothing...
Wow it s very frustrating .
Any leads would be appreciated .Wonder if I should give up ?

Terry

Terry,

The right one WILL turn up eventually. In the UK, that price would have been very cheap, as prices are rising, but I guess you know your US market better.

In the UK, a pre-Celebration 1995-built car, (all cars after April 95 are "Celebration") doesn't really go for less money. With the same AJ16 engine etc, the only significant interior differences on a Celebration are different-coloured veneer and embossed headrests and wood & leather wheel. Don't discount a good pre-Celebration AJ16 car!

Good luck with your search.

Paul

I know you said 1996 but this '93 looks really good.
I'd be bidding if it was on the east coast.

This one has been around for a while. Started out at $14,900 earlier this summer and is slowly coming down. Love it but still too much $$$. The problem is KBB is way higher than reality of the market, but maybe I just have on buyer's glasses.

The nice Black on Black one above must have sold or they took it off the market, wonder if they got top dollar for the '96?

Marijuana is legal in this State and this car is located in a very "Top Self" neighborhood. A few more tokes and even I will go for the KBB pricing.

Totally disagree, IF the car is nearly perfect $10-15k for a late drop down is right on the mark.. Judging by the beat drivers seat, this one is not.

That black car was a bargain at $14k.

I find repressed values are directional proportional to car forums, glad they don't prescribe to that overseas and prices are raising nicely. Save and except parts cars or tarted up should be parts cars / beaters.

Hi Terry,

Appreciate your frustration.

I spent 9 months looking for an XJS including lots of overpriced cars from dealers. On reflection I probably rejected some good cars early on in my search for perfection. I then came to realise that perfection doesn't exist unless you have very deep pockets.

Like you I was looking for a late facelift (or a Celebration if I was lucky) and likely an automatic. I ended up buying a pre-facelift, 1990 manual from a genuine, private seller i.e., the opposite of what I started looking for.

Bottom line was the car had the best body and history of all I had looked at and it just felt right.

So my advise is don't give up, keep searching but be flexible and don't pass up a good car just because it doesn't fit your initial objectives. Also don't be worried about paying more for a really good, genuine car. There will be lees of them around as time goes on.

Good luck and happy hunting,

LeeP

I would have thought that Los Angeles would be the easiest place to find that certain XJS. When looking for a vintage car it's very difficult to find exactly what you want. The newest XJS is going to be twenty years old. I know that there are non negotiable points; six versus twelve, convert versus coupe, pre facelift versus post facelift, color etc. It's too late to go down to the dealer to custom order your car. So compromises will have to be made. Condition and service history is important. You know your budget, and it sounds like you are willing to pay a good price. Low mileage cars sound good, but lots of times the cars have sat around unused for years. An affluent older owner has other cars available to drive and may now prefer something else and the Jag became a weekend toy and then just sits. If you buy from a private party and the seller is an enthusiast, than you might find that a higher mileage car has been sorted out and properly maintained. A final recommendation is to contact a Jaguar club in your area. There are usually cars for sale by club members who have taken the time and effort to sort out and maintain their cars. Good luck.

Jaguar XJS XJS Convertible | eBay

This one has been languishing on E-Bay for awhile, looks like they even dropped the price $10.

But it is BRG! Darn.

Appears someone tried to dye the bolsters, and counsel poorly.. Judging by the exetremly poor conidtion of the headlamps, that car baked in the sun and is a huge pass, esp at that price..

Good color though.

Tan interiors are terrible. My '09 XJR looks like it has twice the mileage it does due to the same. Black FTW!
