The cat is keeping me guessing
DIY, the ONLY way to go! That answers the question of how you got HC12a in the system, and I shall say no more about it!
The compressors used in many of the XJS's were also, as you noticed, made by/for GM vehicles. They are not that expensive, relatively speaking for Jaguar parts, about $250 at Napa. I'm sure you may even be able to get it rebuilt for less. OTOH, like has been stated, you can save yourself some weight, up the gas mileage, and make future spark plug changes much easier by removing the unusable compressor!

I could care less on the weight savings. I am more concerned with being able to easily access the Air cleaner covers to take them off to swap out the air filters. As well as get stuff out of the way to get to the spark plugs easier. That's more my concern. Plus removing the condensor will let the radiator get more air through it too..
This thing keeps me guessing yet again.
So when I originally got the car, it had a JVC CD player in it. The detachable face was held on my 2 strips of duct tape. I had a Baluonkt in my closet, so one weekend I figured I would swap the radios out. No big deal.
Another issue was the power antenna didn't work. I believe because the antenna rod itself was bent and wouldn't go down, thus maybe burning out the motor(??) but because the inner rod was attached, I couldn't just pull th antenna up. My favorite radio station wouldn't come in unless I was out in the open driving.
Last weekend I pulled the antenna out to prep for replacing it with one from a 95. This week I have been drivng the car, and my favorite radio station comes in perfectly. WITH NO ANTENNA????
Is this normal?
