Catalyst Converters gone?

Default Catalyst Converters gone?

Hi, i was removing exhaust to do some other work and took a look inside cats (actually only left one)
This is what i see





dead shot?

I'm afraid so.

Do you have any exhaust rattles? If so, it's chunks of the material that ended up in your mufflers

Nope not really, i also couldnt find any loosen chunks, exhaust looks and sounds normal.

Default What's In Cats Anyway?








These had worked their way through the system, through the mufflers (mostly) and lodged in the very aft-most resonators.
The blurry ones aren't just poor focus, the ceramic had Melted!
The whole system rattled like a barrel of bolts.
Car ran a Lot better with new cat and mufflers.

new cats will be 200 each, quite a lot. Can i maybe clean them out with drill and hammer?

If the chamber is emptied but still part of the exhaust system it will sound terrible. Had that situation on one of my P38 range rovers.
thankfully my XJRS has non cat downpipes.
