There are numerous posts on this issue, but I couldn't find the answer to my specific question. The alternator went bad on my 95 XJS. It is now fixed, but I need to clear the check engine light. Can I do this without a code reader? If not, what is the location of the connector?

 

Assuming your car has the OBD port (which it should have for this MY) the OBD port is in the drivers side footwell. If you get down there you'll see it. In theory any code reader should be able to reset it. If you go into PEP boys and ask nicely they'll probably do it for you

If your car still has the fuel / trip computer in the centre console, and you are getting your codes from there then you clear the check engine light by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes

 

Any pepboys, auto zone advanced auto will do a code check for free. Some will claim they arent allowed to clear the codes. But I have had them clear mine ( Non_Jag)
