compression check
Finally got my 85 xjs HE V12 to run and after 3 or 4 minutes it starts to smoke oil out both tail pipes, it does not smoke on first start up.Keep in mind that this car hasen't run in about 4 years at least. And with all the snow I can't take it for a little drive to clean her out and just to get things circulating and warmed up. I have only started it about 6-8 times and never to full warm up.My book says compression should be 135 to 165 psi . Well not even close. I pulled all plugs and with butterflies wide open I got anywhere from 220 to 260 psi??? Now a couple I had to do a few times before they would come up over 200 but I also think that I may have a few sticky valves as I have some ticking when running but it is intermitent(comes and goes) don't trust my spelling.Anybody know if there was different compression ratios for the HE v12, and what is a good thing to put in cylinder's to free up the rings?thanks in advance Bryan
P.S. When I first changed oil it smelled like turpentine but when drained no crap came out with oil and engine breather on front was clean and sludge free.
