Default Convertible top fighting itself

Hello All, (first time posting)
I’ve got a ‘94 4.0 XJS convertible. I had the common hydraulic leak at the pump/reservoir, which I fixed. Prior to disassembly, I marked the connections in an effort to get the same hoses reconnected but now cannot get the top to cooperate. I suppose it’s possible the hoses still got swapped/marked wrong but I seem to remember there being a purge/bleed process that I read about sometime ago but I cannot seem to find it anywhere. Anyone have advice? Top worked great before fixing the leak (if you didn’t mind oil all over the boot/battery). Can still hear pump trying but it’s like one side is trying to go down while the other is trying to go up…..
thanks in advance (and sorry if this is redundant/wrong spot to post).

The purge process is simply actuating the convertible top motor several times. It will burp itself out in the process.

If you follow each of the hoses as far as you can see, which admittedly isn’t very far, it should still be far enough to determine which lines stay on the passengers side and which go to the drivers side. You’ve now narrowed the mixup to two different combinations times two. You will have a one in four shot of guessing it correctly. I suspect you reversed one of the sides.

This might help:
