Default Crazy Gas Guage

The past few weeks my gas gauge will move to the 3:00 position when I first start up and after a bit (or two, or five!) it will suddenly move to the correct position. It does not occur while driving or throughout the day once I have been driving. Only when I initially start with a cold vehicle/engine.

Any thoughts? Temperature maybe? If it was a ground, it should occur at any or all times, not just at a cold start.

I don't think that temperature would affect it.
It could be a sticky float on the sender.
