Default Dizzy cap, wires. rotor and ignition coil.

Here's the question. When should I consider changing the above items in my 92 XJS V12 convertible? My car starts and runs great and my son says leave well enough alone but I read they should be changed at 50k miles. Mine has 54k.

What do you recon?

Coil- replace as/when needed

The rest - 50k miles interval sounds OK to me if they don't give problems sooner. Inspect the cap and rotor a couple times along the way.

Just IMO. Others will chime in, I'm sure

Cheers

If you want reliability, change them. All these things work until they do not, and when they do not it will be at the worst possible moment.

My car is Marelli and it still has its original coils.

Ignition leads should be inspected and tested to spec. Most will specify the ohms per foot/meter of wire.

Dissy cap and rotor - I would inspect them when you do your service and only replace them if needed. My car is still on the same rotor and cap that was in the car when I bought it 10 years ago. I check it regularly and have never had a problem.

As the coils are cheap, I'd do it on a 3-4 year intervall. Dizzy cap maybe every 5 years (very safe side) the same goes with ht leads and rotor arm thingey.

If the vent tubes for your new cap don't look glued well, put some epoxy on them. I was recently left on the roadside because mine fell into the dizzy and broke the rotor. (Beck Arnley)

The Marelli doesn't have any vent tubes on the dizzy cap. Only the standard 'draft' hoses on the base plate...
