Got on the phone with David Faircloth Jaguar Fuel Injector Service (great guy) and he's nearly positive the injectors are simply stuck from having been stored in the trunk of the car for so long. I never woulda thunk it but apparently it's a common-ish scenario.

Either that or I somehow managed to smoke all twelve of 'em via some sort of wiring foul-up related to the engine swap. ! I checked six and all of those were at 2.7-2.9 ohms resistance....which I think is correct...so maybe I got lucky. Not sure what other electrical check I can perform.

I feel like a dumbass! I fell into the trap of assuming I had a high-tech problem when it appears, and hopefully will prove to be, a low-tech problem.

I'll let everyone know how things progress.

Hi Doug

I have got 'Exactly' the same problem as yourself!

A drop of gas down the Air Intake and She will run like a bird for a couple of Seconds but no Fuel is being injected, even though I've got plenty of Fuel Pressure.

Greg and Grant are suspecting that all of the Injectors are gummed up, as this Car has been standing for 16 years!

So I've taken out the Fuel Rail with all the Injectors attached and are taking them to have them cleaned, which will hopefully solve the problem.

And since I have got this far, I am also changing all the Spark Plugs.

If you get yours going before I do, please could you tell me how you solved your problem and I'll do the same for you if mine starts first.

Update:


IT RUNS !


In fact, it runs *super* smooth. It started almost instantly. And I was pleased to see the oil pressure come right up and the charging system work.

Only ran it for about 90 seconds, though, as I wasn't prepared to bleed the cooling system.

So, the fault was stuck fuel injectors.

My thanks to the group for all the help.

Wow 12 stuck fuel injectors - who would have thought, unless you have seen this problem before.

Great News Doug

Well done!

Not going so well my end, as having unblocked the Injectors, the moment I turned the Key to start her, The Fuel Pump packed up!

I obviously didn't think of it. Dave at Jaguar Fuel Injector Service says it isn't all that unusual. My mistake was having them cleaned and serviced and them letting them sit in the trunk 12+ months

Is this the dreaded shielded wire this thread is about?



It has some kind of wire around it which is not connected to anything... Can't remember where this plugged into now () but is this that wire?

The shield should be connected to ground but only at one end.

Damien, your car is a Marelli, this wire should not be present in the engine bay. It will be in the Marelli wiring harness going to the EFI ECU in the boot.

My car is also marelli Warron, that wire lives in the engine bay. Daim's pic is one half of the male/female spade connector between the engine loom and the marelli loom. In my car it is cable tied to fuel rail adjacent to the coil and throttle pedestal. It was quite possibly a transitional measure for cars around the change point from lucas to marelli.

Isnt your car an XJR-s with Zytec, My car does not have this wire.

This wire is in the loom between the Marelli and Lucas ECU's. The engine speed sensor to the Marelli is a small black wire and comes from the speed sensor on the flywheel

This wire in my picture sits normally around the dizzy... At least that is where I found it... The other half of it should be connected to the wires heading to the amplifiers on the front cross member - if I now remember correctly...

My car is a factory 5.3 litre XJRs, which ran the stock marelli ignition (although it runs a 6 litre/marelli at the moment)
The wires in question run from pin 24 ignition ECU and connect at the engine bay spade to wire running to pin 18 EFI ecu. On the pre marelli cars the pin 18 wire ran directly to the Lucas AMP on LH intake manifold. I can only assume the harnesses were later modified to run directly between the marelli and the efi ecu eliminating the need for that connection in the engine bay although that connection still shows up the same in later wiring diagrams.
It is marelli engine speed Output as opposed to the input from flywheel sensor.
Edit. The wire in Daims pic may be either ignition side or efi side. Both white and can't check my motor to confirm.

Damien, I have just had another look at my car and this wire is for the Tacho, it goes to 1 coil

This is pic of that wire and connector on my 1989 marelli. One side of connection is definitely to pin 18 EFI ecu and other is to pin 24 marelli ecu.
nb.Connector looks white in pic but is in fact black.
