Default Electric Window won't go down XJS V12

The passenger Window goes up and down but the drivers Window does not, so having had a look through the Threads it looks like it could be the Switch?

But how do I get the Switch out without breaking anything as the clip which surrounds the 3 rocker switches looks extremely delicate.

Would I have to remove the Ski Slope in order to get to the Switch, if so how do I do it, as I cannot see what is holding it in place.

Remove the centre consol lid and the tray inside; it's only a few screws (at least on mine it is).
Prod the wiring with your finger whilst operating the switch and it may work.
If not, gently prise the switches out and swap them over to see if the problem moves to the other side; if it does it's a switch problem, if it doesn't it's something else!

Hi Steve

Thanks! I was just about to go out when the blinking thing stopped Working and what I know about electrics you could write on the back of a stamp.

So it will probably take a couple of days to fix it, I'm just praying its not the motor as that might cost more than the Car!

Mine was a thermal cutout switch. On the '92 they're under the passenger knee panel near the fuses and l believe fuel cutoff switch.

Hi Malc

I'm not even sure what a Thermal cut out switch looks like, so will try swopping the switches round first to see if that does the job.

OB,

There's a very good chance that it will just be the switch. If so, you can CAREFULLY take the switch apart and clean out any fluff and brighten up the contacts.

Good luck

Paul

Hi Paul

I managed to get the Switches out and then I swapped them over, So I know the Switch is Ok, its Not the Switch.

But maybe it could be the Socket?

What do I do now?

I'm guessing you might tell me to take the door panel off and then put a Volt meter on the wires to the Window Motor, then push the button in order to see if there is power getting through.

If so then please would you talk me through this, as I have never done this before on an XJS.

But before I have to do that, I was wondering if each Window is controlled by a separate fuse or a Thermal Cut Out Switch as was mentioned before.

I have no idea what that looks like, or even where to find it.
