Default Engine code failure 1996 XJS 2+2

Recently I installed some new injectors on my 96 XJS.

I had a previous post asking some questions. I did all of this and other things in lieu on my trip from Florida to Michigan in the Jag to visit family and friends.

Don't know if the injectors had anything to do with it but a couple of times the engine fault light came on with a code " Manufacturer Control".

The Jag ran great all the way from Venice, Fl to Shaker Heights, Ohio.

Anybody know what that code meant.

Thanks

Do you have an OBD reader?
The related fault code would help to pinpoint the possible problem.

The OBD device is what is calling it "Manufacture Control". I think the code P1183 or 1083.

Thanks

Hmmm, your car uses OBD1 tech, doesn't give much info out about the troubles.
Also can't find those codes on the lists.
Maybe someone will come along and have a better answer for you.

Closest I can come to is this lot:

P1183 Engine oil temperature sensor – circuit malfunction Wiring, engine oil temperature sensor P1184 Engine oil temperature sensor – signal malfunction Wiring, engine oil temperature sensor P1185 Oxygen sensor heater 1 – cylinders 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Wiring, H02S P1186 Oxygen sensor heater 1 – cylinders 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Wiring, H02S P1187 Oxygen sensor heater 1 – cylinders 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 – circuit malfunction Wiring, H02S P1188 Oxygen sensor heater 1 – cylinders 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 – resistance Wiring, H02S P1189 Oxygen sensor heater 1 – cylinders 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 – low resistance Wiring, H02S

Paul,

That's OBDII on your 96 aj16 car. As mentioned P1183 is an engine oil temp warning. I would just reset it for now and see if it comes back.

Good luck

I didn't think they were fully OBDII compliant in 1996.
If they were, it's got me wondering why I haven't got the codes stored in my lists..........
