erratic Start
Hi everyone,
So I am having trouble with my 92 xjs v12.
last year every so often the starter would not crank and a simple wiggle of the shifter sorted it. It seems to have gotten worse. I have dug through old posts and believe the starting course of action is.
1) on the passenger side in the engine compartment unscrew the plastic cover to access the starter relay. Clean connections
2) follow that line down to the spade connector. Clean connections
3) check for a loose ground around that spade connector
4) check the switch in the shifter to align it. Here is where I am lost. I have pulled off each of the 4 connections and the car seems to start. I assumed if I pulled one off and left 3 for instance the starter would not engage. Does anyone have any clarity around what the 4 connections are. In my manual it only shows an earlier car with 2 connectors. Is there anything else I should check re this problem?
I am attaching a pic
Thanks!!

The black and black/green wire typically pertain to the neutral safety switch and starter circuit....typically by providing a ground to a relay. I don't know, off hand, what the yellow/red wires are for....possibly a tie-in to cruise control function.
Hopefully someone with a 1992 wiring diagram will chime in.
Cheers

Just loosen the tiny screw and the switch will pivot for adjustment
With the gearshift comfortably in "P"...not intentionally forced all the way forward to the last millimeter....and the switch loosened, hold the key to the 'start' position then carefully move the switch a tiny bit in either direction until the starter engages. Do this a couple times; you'll find a sweet spot in the adjustment range of the switch where it will consistently close the circuit.
I'm talking about the switch with the black and black/green wires
Cheers
