Default Floating Trans Mount

Has anyone replaced a slapping or bouncing rear trans mount with a solid or aftermarket replacement?

I haven't done that but would be concerned about it's effect on ride quality.

Normally the slapping/bouncing is due to the foam cups/rings in the assembly disintegrating over time. You can buy a replacement kit for about $25 and provided the springs themselves are good shape, you'll be good as new.

Not sure what MY your car is but I just did this on my 94 and it was a very easy job. Just be careful when releasing the cover as it's under tension.

Cheers,

Allan

This fellow modified his trans mount to use what every other car uses including later model Jags. You will need to some fabrication skills to do this.

Crikey! that does look like a bit of a job!! Nicely done though

My mount bushings lasted 19 years and it only took about 45 mins to replace them so I reckon I'll stick with the standard setup

Holy crap...."could kill you?" I don't think it's going to "kill" anyone! I just pulled mine to change the kick down servo...hardy worth doing all that to "upgrade" it, it's a pain but not quite as big a pain as all that! And mine didn't come apart with the force to "kill" anyone. Figuring I may change mine once in my lifetime and pull the pan that one time I think I'm good with the stock unit.

Could anyone recommend a supplier for the "stock" type mount?

I used Motorcars LTD. They have this kit if it's what you are looking for.

I will attest that it could very well kill you if you don't know what you are doing, and if you don't realize that the trans mount is under load. I was changing my transmission pan gasket and filter, and didn't realize that almost the full weight of the transmission was on the mount, or that there was a spring in there to make it extra loaded.

Lesson learned, honestly. Support the transmission way up high with something while you undo the mount, though still assume for safety's sake that it will spring out with full force and don't be directly underneath it. I used a big wood block (a 4x4, I believe) AND a jack just to be safe.

My 95 XJS is missing the transmission mount completely. Is this kit all I need to (re)place it? Does anyone have a youtube vid they can point me to that will show proper installation?

Thanks!

No this is just a kit to replace some of the inner inner foam/rubber seals and bushings that wear/disintegrate over time.

How is the your transmission/engine supported?

All the parts for the mount are here. Gearbox Mounting-4.0 Litre-Automatic - Parts For XJS from (V)179737 to (V)226645 | Jaguar Classic Parts UK
