flooded car ??
Water everywhere......I picked up a '94 painted bumper coupe a couple of weeks ago for some parts for another "hobby" '94 black bumper coupe. Both cheap.....I know, I know no such animal LOL.
Anyway, the cars are really a 'project" , Just what l need lol. Both cars have been sitting in the Florida elements for years and show it too.The later '94 was towed to a yard and auctioned off for parts. But apart from some forklift damage its generally in good condition. Now the flood. When l first saw the car, the carpets were a bit wet and l really didnt think that much about as it had rained a lot recently. I took the carpets out and left them in the sun to dry opened the widows etc...Now the question. What in gods name did they make the under carpet out of ?? 1 month later its wetter than ever, water is still being held in the sponge like rubber substance. So guessing a lot more water went into the car than just a bit of rain eh.
My question is HOW do l remove this rubber under carpet. Unlike the earlier cars it seems to have had the car built around it ??

malc,
If you mean the "rubber / closed cell" mat that sits under the carpet in the footwells, then it is held in place at the seat end by the bolted in panels that protect the seat ecu etc. It can be possible to wiggle the mat out but you might need to unscrew the panel.
Cheers

Thanks guys.
Yup, thats the black rubber like stuff, Holds water in so well that they were soaking wet and every time l touched them water flooded out weeks later.. The same material is covering the back seats and all the way through the tunnel to under the dash board. The problem is that ALL the cables etc. are fixed through this stuff and have to get released before l can get this **** out to dry...

Malc,
On a colleagues car, I found that the easiest way was to move the seats back as far as possible, remove the footwell parts, then lift the edges of the transmission carpet and find a way of holding them up. Then lift up the edges of the transmission tunnel rubber, find a way of holding them up, then leave a heater running in there until all the damp has dissipated.
