Default Floorpan strengthening plate

Evening all.having got my new floor pans in i wondered if anyone could tell me what the extra plate is under the floor where the pan meets the front. If that makes sense. I know it rots out alot and was carried over to the xk8. As always thanks in advance for any help

You answered your own question though, its for strength. Many unibody cars have something similar on the inside of out. The underside of my MGB has a hat channel (basically the same thing) on the underside of the floor just in front of the seats too.

Specifically it is there to reinforce the floorpan where the driver's heels are. It is on both sides so the same shell can be LHD or RHD. It rots out because the floor is ridged and muck gets into the ridges and stays there. I filled up the ridges with seam sealer when I rebuilt my car.
