Hi all.
The passenger side window motor has decided to play up. The plastic gear wheel in the motor gear box is slipping so I assume I need a new motor. I did pull it apart a few weeks ago and cleaned it out and re greased the gears. I put it all black together and adjusted the window stops and it was working fine. Tried it yesterday and the gear is slipping. Can anybody point me in the right direction either new or SH. 1991 pre facelift convertible.
cheers Rob.
I believe all right side XJS window regulators 1985-1996 will interchange, with only slight modification.
The motor cases on pre-facelift are round where the later are somewhat 'flattened'.
All the geometry and fastenings are identical, to the best of my feeble memory.
The only modification needed is the different power plug.
The motor is fine it seems to be the plastic gear which is driven by the worm that’s failed. Don’t suppose anyone has an old unit they would like to sell. I’m sure I could rebuild with a decent plastic gear.
Rob.
I have one from an '88 convertible that I recently parted.
I have shipped to europe but it's not cheap. I'll sell the motor for $35 USD plus shipping via US Postal Service (cheapest).
Paypal payment. Happy to help if i can.
No I haven’t tried them will give them a call in the morning. As I have nothing to lose I thought I would try turning the gear over and fettle it so it fits and see if that will work as the worn teeth are on one side of the gear. I will post some pictures if this works out ok.

Hi Brad.
Is the motor you have the same as I have pictured. This is a Delco part.
Cheers Rob.
Hello,
Sorry for the delayed reply.
Yes, it is identical. It has the flat side the same as your picture.
I have removed it from the door now. I did not open up the motor but it is separated from the actuator arm (3 screws). All I would have to do is wipe it off and box it up.
I'll need an address. Once I get that I can get a shipping quote.
I have found the cheapest way is by the U.S. Postal Service. (FedEx and UPS are much more expensive).
The motor fits into a a USPS 'If it fits it ships' box for $5.60. Not sure if that applies to overseas but we'll see.
I take payment by PayPal sent to my e-mail address.
Going through the same pain. Unable to obtain a replacement nylon gear or a replacement motor at a reasonable price.
My '89 Coupe LH passenger side motor is identical to the one in the previous post.
This is what I believe caused the stripped Nylon gear teeth.
Firstly I checked against a round case motor but it had more teeth of a different pitch although it will bolt to the alternative holes in the plate.
I dismantled the gear box by grinding off the end of the peened over shaft to remove the drive gear and found this off set wear pattern on the stripped teeth.
So I removed this protrusion to shift the gear across.
This gave me a 1mm shoulder for a spacer washer.
I fitted a 1mm copper washer and reassembled using locktite on the splined shaft.
Here is the new engagement.
This will hopefully give the window a new lease on life.
