Default Fuel injector cleaning setup?

Hey guys,

I'm currently planning my next steps (as a normal person wouldn't ) and want to make sure that all 12 of my injectors will work and spray properly...

After using the search (but probably the wrong search terms) I wanted to ask: has anyone got some pictures of their "test bed" and maybe of how they cleaned their injectors?

Mine are now 28 years old BUT have only been in the car for 78.000 miles, so not really much in the life of a car of that age (my XJ8 has now had the fuel injectors in for like 20 years but around twice that distance) but enough to possibly be a little faulty...

I want to replace the rubber hoses (again) and replace the filters. Pintle caps are already new... I would also like to give them a clean inside.

What would you use to clean them inside with? Carb cleaner? Fuel injector cleaning additives in pure form? I know I would be wanting to pressurize a pot to make sure the additive is pumped through the injector... How would you make a cleaning "test bed"?

Cheers

Damien

I've had good results with putting them in an ultrasonic cleaner. Ideally, they should be actuated and have solvent flowing through them, but I have been able to get the injector flowrates matched just by the ultrasonic cleaning.

I have a car on the megasquirt injection system and it has a test mode. I would hook the injector up to a hose and then program a certain number of actuations and spray it into a graduated cylinder. Over 12,000 cycles I could get them matched to within 0.5 ml of fuel being delivered.

Hi Daim

I've just done a bit of a Write up together with some Photos, to Show you how I made a Rig for Cleaning my Injectors. (very easy to do) and although I know you'll be gutted, you don't even need to take the Engine out, (oops! looks like I was too late!)

Its right at the bottom of this page. (Page 36) here is the link straight to it.
