Default Fuel tank sender unit

Mine is not working. The warning light stays on and the gauge is at bottom. Anyone has any experience with it?

See what I wrote under your Dashboard failure thread.. hopefully it steers you in the right direction. The sending unit is located behind the spare tire under the carpet piece at the back of the fuel tank. It has three wires going to it and has a retaining ring that can be *gently* tapped anti-clockwise to release it. Just make sure you have a quarter tank or less fuel so it doesn't all come spilling out. It is likely that the arm is stuck and can be freed by just moving it back it forth and with some electrical cleaner. You can test its operation while it's out too by moving it back and forth and observing the gauge.

Thanks! Unfortunately I just poured in 10 gallons. Maybe it frees itself when I get on the road. Ain't going to happen soon. Need to register this car first ... but there is lots to do before it is road ready.

You were absolutely correct, there was some liquid in the float. And the arm was stuck.

FYI, if the gage still operates erratically, consider replacing the entire fuel sender unit.

I messed around with various floats and such, none helped. So I spent the $30 for a new sender. Gage now operated correctly and doesn't "swing" every time I stop or turn a corner. Installing it is a 5 minute job.

Thanks,

I siphoned the fuel out from the tank to remove the sender. After putting it back the gauge was at lowest as expected. Then I poured the fuel back and it went up to near half, again as expected. So my guess is it is working now. Will see when I fill her up next time. (Still waiting for my liability insurance from Taylor, so can't drive her legally.)
