Default Fuel Sender Unit

Anyone have experience removing the Fuel Sender Unit on a 07+ XK/XKR?

I'm getting occassional low fuel level reading even though the tank is topped off and was thinking maybe the relay is gummed up or the floater is getting caught on a wire/line in the tank.

Any tips?

I have not done it, but according to the service manual the rear subframe assembly must be removed from the car in order to get to the fuel tank. It looks difficult without a lift and appropriate jack.

I remember reading the '07 manual and if memory serves you remove the right rear passengers seat (bottom portion) to access the fuel pump. There's a sound deadener under the seat that also has to be lifted up.

If I were you I'd download to your computer, the maint manual online for ??? what??? ten/fifteen bucks and there you'll find instructions for removal of the pump.

Default Thanks Guys

Thank you both WhiteXKR and Hailers!

Funny thing in the workshop CD I got under the FSU section its as WhiteXKR described but under Draining the Fuel Tank Hailers access is shown (much easier too). My version is also a different page then Hailers post... I found this all very weird.

Now onto the hard part, checking the floater and meter contacts, unfortunately it looks like you can't just buy the sender, you have to buy the pump as a whole unit at $400 bucks. Hopefully the existing unit can be fixed.

Thanks again
