Dears:

Anyone attempted to retrofit the later style gear lever handle to the older style with wood trims? As you know the top part is shaped differently. Will it involve swapping the entire lever? If so, how is it accomplished?

Won't it just be a case of unscrewing the knob bits on either side? Just visually, other than that they look identical.

 

Nope, Someday, The older style has round center hole for the end pieces, whereas the later style has long oval.

 

That is what I did a decade or so ago. The shift column in my XJ wuzza 6 came from an XJS.

So the question is, are #1 in either picture interchangeable? They certainly look different on the shaft.

 

they are exactly the same, I did it 20 years age when they could be purchased new from jag new car dealers
