Default GM V12 aluminum LS series.

i was just looking at some pix of an experimental GM LS engine ,

V12 8.5L, interesting if nothing else, this i not new ,back around 2006 a PRI show in Orlando FL, at the GM pavilion they had an LS straight six head ,when i asked about it,guy said for a V12 LS.

that would make a cool engine ,LS are proven performers, and lots of info since they came out.

time will tell!

Yes, it would be an interesting engine for sure! However, I can say that when modding everything, it's bad enough to buy everything in multiples of 8 (8 pistons, 8 rods, 16 valves, 16 lifters, etc) - buying multiples of 12 would be even worse!

A V12 LSx would be pretty amazing to see, though I'm not sure what they would use it for. High end Cadillac? Big truck? It would be too long to fit a Corvette. An LSx based V4 or V6 would be interesting as well.

The neatest thing about the LS is not only how much power they make, but the packaging. The pushrod 2-valve design makes it one of the most compact engines made. A 7 liter LSx is tiny compared to most other engines of similar displacement and every aspect of the engine is designed to be efficient and durable.

Of course if you want a readily available GM V12 you could go with one of these:

I wouldn't get too excited about the V12 unless they've somehow magically made it accommodate balance shafts.
It'll be just like their V8 chopped down to V6 90 degree engines- noisy, rough and unrefined.

These were purpose built v12's meant for trucks(lorries), stationary motors and other various industrial applications. MASSIVE torque. Great for huge hot rods if you have the coin. 10K USD for a stock rebuilt.

The LS1-style Gen III/IV V8's do not share any parts at all with their V6 counterparts.

Jaguar and many other manufacturers have successfully made V12's, why couldn't GM? I doubt they'd go through all the trouble of designing a modern LS V12 without taking into consideration all the variables.

Interesting that many so called experts here don't know that a 90 degree V6/V12 is not the optimum configuration. Both these engine configurations should be at 60 degrees for optimum balance.

jameys correct just think about it, at this point GM wouldnt R&D it if it wasnt going to make some hi end cars to put it in! and for your interest GM actually made a V16 Cadillac LS engine, back around 2003, supposidly made 900hp N/A, i got pix of the whole car, very big and long limo type monster, never made production tho.

and that old GM thunder junk is just that, how do i know experiance(61yrs of engine work), yeah i'm an old guy,lot older than 61) i have rebuilt some of them, never designed for any hi-performance use, and super heavy, all cast iron, low rpm, max 3800-4000.

and if of interest they were called TORO FLOW because of the port design lot of swirl, guess where GM got the engineereing for the famous Vortec ports,DUH.

and they were made in V6-V8-V12.

Hey typhoon what about the Buick GN with 90* V6 turbo engines, i wouldnt say they were all that bad, i have seen some make 600hp, they were the fastest full body cars made in 1987!

I wonder if the is the same one, just showed up on Motor Trend today GM LS-based V-12 Under Construction, Bound for 280 Z - WOT on Motor Trend

They made a V12 and V4 from two V8s. Being a pushrod V12 I bet it sounds very nice and farty.

Yes, that is the same fellow.
I'm curious to see if he has any heat/cooling issues, especially around the middle cylinder.
