Going to need a new top pretty soon..
Hey guys,
My car is going to be needing a new top pretty soon. Mine gas no tears but it's looking long in the tooth.
How much am I looking at to get this done along with the headliner?
Is it a good idea to buy the materials myself and then have someone else do it?
Thanks for any feedback

You need to find the guy that's going tondo the work first.
I remember whe. I needed to replace the piping on my leather car seat. I went to Jaguar and asked them who they use. They gave me the number of a guy in some random industrial business park and he was great! Matched the piping perfectly for at least half what anyone else would quote me.
I would recommend doing the same. Find out who they would outsource that work to and find out if he's okay with you supplying the material.
I would prefer to supply the material, however it could create or cause some complications should the installer not be familiar with something. Hell, the installer might even make a better recommendation for you!

Thanks for your reply. That sounds like a good idea. There is one place that the dealer here recommends, but they are extremely expensive. I want to save as much as I can because one of my other cars needs to have its hood stripped and repainted from sun damage.
Anyway, how was that experience? Where they able to do it in a day?

Mark,
I would contact your local Jag club and see what shops their members have used and then check them out. The dealer will most likely use a shop that works on the newer cars.
The only draw back to using your material is that if there is a problem with the material fitting correctly or being cut wrong etc. it is now your problem and the shops will not guarantee your material and possibly their work when you supply the material.
