My 1989 v12 xjs wont rev past 4000rpm in any gear but it will in neutral any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix it would be much appreciated. It feels like it wants to go but it like its governed there.

If yours is an earlier '89 with Lucas ignition you most likely have a failure of the secondary ignition coil....the one mounted in front of the radiator. Replace it, or replace both original coils with a single DAC6093 coil.

If yours is a later '89 with Marelli igntion....well...I'll have to mull it over a bit.

In either case a fuel delivery problem could be at play.....but let's clarify which ignition you have first.

Cheers

Mine is an earlier with a Lucas ignition. Went down to look for the garage to look at the ignition coil in front of the radiator and there isn’t one im guessing it was attached to the to white wires hanging there and the other coil is not a single dac6093 so im guessing that’s my problem. Thanks for the help Doug where’s a good place to get the replacement coil.

I'd think that *any* of the usual Jag suppliers can fix you up. It's a common Jag item. Coventry West, Motorcars Ltd., Welsh, etc etc
