A series about Driving Jaguars Around the World could be a fun read, OB. At any rate, it might be nice to write this up more fully, if only for my own amusement....

Hi Someday

Do not be so modest.

You are an Ace Photographer who gets to go to places that some of us could only dare to dream of and are able to write that up in a way that puts

you in those pictures.

Worst case Scenario, a free subscription to one of those mags.

So Go for it!

What a wonderful travelogue Someday - thank you for posting.

Super looking car and I never realised what a beautiful place Japan is. I may add to the bucket list! You should get sponsorship from the Japanese travel bureau.

Others, more knowledgeable than I, have commented on the mechanical aspects but the car must be a good un to have done that trip.

Cheers,

LeeP

Well, I was selective in only posting the nice photos, and not those of the suburban sprawl for example.... But yes, the country's well worth visiting even if you aren't interested in the Big City type of things.

And I do feel a little more confident now that the car is fundamentally sound. But I am glad to be back, and no longer worrying about potentially having to call out a tow truck to some remote mountain valley....

Hi Someday

I've got to do some good Photos of 'Cherry Blossom' for Agreed Valuation Insurance, where presumably the better they are the more they will think She is worth.

And so in order to help with this I made a Lens Hood out of a Store bought Fruit Pie and very nice it was too!

Though if She passes the MOT we will go somewhere nice to Celebrate.

I haven't had a Chance to try it out yet but it doesn't cut any corners in the View Finder and you can also fit the Lens Cap when not in use.

Step (1) Take one Store bought Fruit Pie.

Take one Store Bought Fruit Pie

Step (2) Eat Pie and wash up plastic container

Step (3) Cut the base out of the Pie Container and Slide over Lens Barrel.

Step (4) Take Photos and hope for some improvement. (Work in progress)

Cut the base out of the Pie Container and then Slide over Lens Barrel (Auto Focus Still Works)

Hi Warrjon

'The Wizard' must have cast a Spell on me (Lol)

That Lens hood is almost better than the ones you can buy and I made it in less than 5 minutes, so I'm hoping that the Photo's will be just as tasty as the Pie.

I personally find lens hoods mainly of use for protecting the lens against bumps and knocks - unless you're shooting at certain particular angles, it's not that likely to get sun flares in the image.

The potential issue with your pie-hood is that the interior looks shiny - if it reflects light into the lens, you're not solving the problem, and might be making it worse. Actual lens hoods are coated with flock (black of course) or ridged (and matte) to prevent any internal reflections. Flock shouldn't be too expensive - once you get the hood shape perfected, I guess.

That fruit pie looks nice. I'm feeling hungry....

Check sizes (models) first of course, but something like this should be pretty cheap too:

On a wide angle like that also check that it doesn't vingentte the frame (become visible in the corners).

Usually factory hoods for wide angles have the corners cut to prevent that.

You can also see the flocking on the inside to prevent reflections.

Hi Someday@Jagboi

Good Points!

I'll take off the Lens hood and give it a squirt of Matt Black and then see what happens.

No Vignetting from what I can see but a lot of the Photos I've taken have been plagued by Sun Flares.

Hi Leo

I got the 'Pies' from Morrisons and they were Fab!

Apple and Blackberry Crumble.

As for the Lens Hood that I made out of the empty container, it made such a difference to the Photos, that its worth investing in a professional one.
