1994 L6 XJS 130k - daily driver for 5 years

I am getting hard shifting at times. Its usually when I just start the car. It will lunge into gear and the trans light will come on. I restart the car and the problem is fixed. Drained transmission fluid about 18 months ago and replaced filter. There have been no issues, until now. The fluid level is ok.

This has been happening about once a month for three months now. Any ideas? Solenoid? Torque converter? I also sometimes get hesitation when going up hills.

 

Are you sure that you are checking the fluid level properly?
It must be up to temperature and you must run through all of the gears (including reverse) before you check it.
Do a minimum of 3 level checks and average them out.

 

Did you resolve your Trans light issue???
