Default Headlight Reminder

I don't know if the XJS ever came with a Headlight Reminder feature but I sure do need one.

If anyone has added this feature please let us know how you did it.

A circuit schematic and parts list would be great to have.

Thanks!

Mark

BTW... the headlight switch on my '90 has a push-pull feature. I do not believe it has any function. Was this used for rear fog lights on European cars?

There are a number of ways to do this.

One very simple way, which I've used, is to get a 12v buzzer. Take the buzzer "+' wire and tap into the park-lamp wire at the back of the headlight switch. Now take the "-" wire and tap into the plunger switch in the driver's door jamb. Tap into the wire that goes to ground/earth when the door is opened.

The buzzer will sound whenever the parklamps and/or headlamps are on *and* the driver's door is opened.

Other schemes, slightly more involved, include the ignition circuit so you don't have to hear the buzz if the key is 'on'.

Other will chime in.

Cheers

I did this recently on my 90. Used a relay, a 12v buzzer and a relay holder and fitted the lot in the fuse hatch under the glove box. When the key goes to position one the relay is activated and cuts the power to the buzzer. The buzzer buzzes if the lights are on, but the key in pos one causes the relay to break the circuit.
Cost under $20 for parts. Jumped into a fuse using a thin spade thing on a circuit that comes live on key in pos 1. PM me and I'll dig out the parts from my amazon account and send you a link to a web page I got the instructions from, I should be able to find it again. It was a different car but the principle is the same.

Waiting on flight in OKC so just looked this up. Here you go. Good luck!
If you get stuck I could photograph my set up, just let me know.

Thanks guys. I will tackle this project as soon as I get the fuel problem fixed on my '89.
