Default Headlight Trouble

I’ve had a problem with the low beam head lights on my ’95 XJS 4.0 convertible these past few days and haven’t had the time to try to diagnose the problem. I do have a Fluke 117 DVOM to use and will do so this weekend. If anyone can advise a place to start my search it is very much appreciated.
My low beams are very dim – to the point of ineffective. The relay and the headlamp control module both appear to be working OK. At this point in time I’m inclined to think the problem lies with the column turn signal switch and/or the wiring between the switch and the parking lights, low beams or both (?).
In rotating the wheel on the turn signal switch to the first position (parking lights) the low beams come on very dim and their level of brightness doesn't change when I rotate the wheel to the second position or headlight position. Clearly some amount of current is being fed through the parking lamp section of that switch (?) to the low beam circuit of the headlights.

How durable is the column switch? Has this switch proven to be somewhat troublesome over the life of the XJS? My car is very well maintained and kept clean.

Thank you all,
Roger
