Default headlights

New member, not sure if I am posting in the right place. I just bought a 1989 xjs convertible. This site says 1975-1996. Anyway my jag. has 4 headlights and the ones I see have 2 of them.Is this a after market or did they have a mid year change? If somebody can help me out on both questions it would be great. Thanks Ben

The XJS was always designed to have the moulded single large lamps. It was US regulations that prohibited the superior European lights, and forced the dim sealed beams on US customers. So the 4 sealed beams was a compromise for the US market only, the rest of the world got the larger single lights.

There are upgrade Halogen or LED lights available if you still have the shitty sealed beams.

Any of the H4 European lights in place of the sealed beams will help a lot - Bosch, Hella or (best) Cibie.

I'd check with Empire Car Covers. I don't have a convertible, but I'm happy with the one they sold me for my coupe.

Thanks,

Or, merely a fresh set of Halogen filled original type sealed beams do a lot.... Did that to my VJ wuzza six. Far better. even bests my 94 Jeeps plastic things...But, new bulbs did a lot there as well. PITA to swap in. @!@#$%%^$#plasticfasteners/rtetainers...
