Default Headlights 84 XJS Euro

Greetings

i have the headlights out of my XJS at the moment, i found the Right hand Head light had a globe wired into the external wiring, see the attached Pic, why is it there, does it need to be there...?

attached a pic of the left hand headlight wiring, it does not have the globe, but of note is that i found broken glass in the socket area the headlight fits into indicating it had been changed at some time previous.

Comments on the extra globe are much appreciated

Many thanks

Darren

That's your park light Darren. Fits into the little rubber socket. The L/H single red wire you are holding is the same thing, just other end of the wire. Follow that red wire back to the headlight assy. and you will find the globe for that one too.

Thanks Baxtor,

i am in the process of removing the the headlight wiper washers, removing the wiring as well.....should be fun, probably have a few more questions before the job is done as i do not have a wiring diagram that includes the headlight wiper washer set up.

cheers and thanks again for the assistance

Darren

there are three lamps in the Euro headlight unit

high beam
low beam
side lights

the small globe lamp is the ' side light ' and is for UK markets, don't know about the rest of the world

Strictly speaking, there are only two actual bulbs: the parking light (UK speak "side light") and the H4 bulb, which is a twin filament bulb, one for high beam, one for dipped beam.

I think that all of the world, except North America put the white park/side light in the headlight, even in the quad setup..... NA has a 2 filament bulb/globe in the front indicator/direction light and the park/side light is amber.
