Default HELP,HELP, HELP, SKI SLOPE on 1989 XJS

I have asked this before and tried everything suggested. I can't get the rear screw out. O was told to take out the console tray and that did not work The female latch just will not come out to get to the rear screw. I tried to pry the top metal latch off it and to no avail. I don't want to crack or break the top plastic piece as that would create an even bigger problem. Any ideas or help greatly appreciated. This is the last thing i have to do to the car.

Have you got to the point where you can actually see the screw?

Not my picture, but is this the part you're trying to get off?

No it’s the screw that holds the ski slope on. I don’t think he can remove the plastic cover. Is odd as it’s only held on with 2 screws. The only thing I can think of is that trim cover has been glued on.

Yes, that is the part I am trying to get out Thorsen. It just will not budge. I cant even get the plastic up enough to see the screw. I am just afraid od breaking the plastic cover.

To get the female latch out, I used two plastic trim removal tools as prybars. I honestly thought I was going to break something, but the female latch popped free.

Even if you take out the actual latch I don’t think you will get a screw driver on the screw. Just taken a picture of mine with a screwdriver in the screw so you can see the angle needed to undo.

Just had another thought you will have to remove the black plastic trim as the slope is lifted up at the back and out. You can’t lift the front first as it slots under the heating controls. Maybe if you removed the heater control panel first it would come out that way. If it was me I would sacrifice the trim piece at the back and get a replacement from a breaker.

Hi Jaguar Don

Something in the back of my mind keeps telling me that when I removed my 'Ski Slope' I had to lift the Ash Trays out in order to unscrew a Bracket that was underneath

So might be worth a try ?

Hi OB.
Not the ash trays but the cruise control switch and the lighter need to be removed. The 2 small bolts can then be accessed. These only need to be loosened to allow the slope to be removed.

Hi Don,

Have you been able to remove the "female" latch catch shown betwixt finger and thumb in the picture posted by Thorsen?

If not then see my response to your other post on how to do this as the plastic cover will not budge until you remove the latch. If yes then I am out of ideas except that someone has glued the plastic cover in place for some reason.

Cheers,
LeeP

Yep here's another picture with the side tabs that have screws to the sides of the console.

It has been awhile but I seem to recall having to remove the console lid and the compartment underneath.
There are also two studs on the inside of the trans tunnel cover attaching to the ski slope.
You also need to pull out the ash trays to undo the brackets to the trans tunnel top.
But it has been years since I did it.

Default Finally, out and done

Finally got the bugger out. New slope installed. Thanks so much to all that assisted me in my latch problem. This site is the best.
