Default Help identify electrical "thing" in drivers side fuse box area

Ok...this "thing" appears like a add on but I can't see where the wires go that it plugs into.
It's been taped and a plastic lid taped to it!
There is a add on power wire coming off the main fuse panel (with a inline fuse of its own) going into this plug also
It seems out of place and is so bulky the factory fuse panel cover can't be installed. (I have it but it was in trunk)
ANY idea what this thing is...the car does have a old car phone installed still. Could this be for the phone.
Inside the taped up box you can see a tan circuit board.

Any idea what the big flat plug goes to?

What is this plug to?

That red wire coming out of the fuse box has a inline fuse and goes to the large flat plug the mystery box plugs into

Remove the inline fuse to it and see what, if anything does not work. I expect it is something to do with the phone or an aftermarket alarm. If all well, then remove the guastly bodge it is!
Please add your car details to your signature, or nobody knows which model you are asking questions about.

Yeah, ID is academic. Phone or alarm? A great potential
of electrical issues with no possible benefit.

Default Hmmmm

Well I decided to clean the dimmer reostat so I dropped the lower dash on drivers side where the mystery thing is. I didn't have time to fully inspect it tonight BUT I'm leaning towards thinking it has something to do with the sunroof. I'll trace wires better tomorrow but it sure appears those wires go up the A pillar. (The headliner is out currently also so in daylight it should be easy to see...I couldn't pull the fuse and see if sunroof works because I have instrument cluster out and didn't want to apply power.)

Ok this is for sure something for the sunroof. I will make sure it's properly Stowed when I get the dash lights working. Please see other thread. (Sun roof works as it should)
