Default HELP PLZ!!!! new to jags - just got a 94 xjs and already having problems

Hi guys (and girls?)

I just got a 1994 xjs 6 4.0 L with 167000 mi...

When I looked at the car before buying, it ran and cranked ok... when I went to picked it up from the saler, I was told to jump started because the batter was bad... so the car was running when I picked it up, I drove home and left it turned off until the following day....

I went to turn it on and it did no start, I jump started it but all I got was no crank and all the lights in the dash were blinking really fast...

any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Hi I think that you might already have come up with your own solution. Duff Battery. These cars can suffer from all sorts of problems if the battery is not up to scratch.

Get the battery checked with a tester; what does the volt gauge read on the dash when you switch the ignition on.

A weak battery can give you a no crank situation very quickly and the car can not complete all its diagnostic checks before it starts.

P.S. not yet seen you over in the new member area, why not introduce yourself to the guys?

All the best

Yes, looks like a dead battery. If you are in US, you can take the battery to Kragen or Autozone. They will test the battery for free.

Thanks guys...
I thought so too (actually hope it is nothing more serious)...

it is a 167K mi car... so anything could be wrong.

what to look out for with a car with so many miles on? what are the parts most likely to need attention?

BTW... I went to the new members area... sorry about that. :-)
