Default High idle 95 XJS 4.0 (AJ16)

Recently replaced TPS and idle control valve and naturally got the ridiculous high idle (1800 rpm). Can’t find anyone in Houston to do an ECU reset but was directed to a shop in San Antonio that allegedly could. I called and they said “no they can’t “ but suggested the old “disconnect the battery, zip tie + & - together overnight” trick and that should reset. I’ve tried this trick before for 30 minutes and it didn’t work. Has anyone tried overnight with any success with the AJ16?

By the way, my usual mechanic in Houston “Champions Jaguar” can’t do the reset because his computer cable broke and he hasn’t been able to get a replacement.

Thanks for any insight.

There is no way to reset the ECU. You can disconnect it for 100 years and it would not make a difference.

There is a way to manually adjust the TPS. It requires loosening the two TPS screws holding it in place and manually rotating it's position until it matches the voltage the ECU is looking for. (The PDU/WDS would reset the ECU's expectations to match the TPS installed)

In the future, record the voltage at the middle wire of the TPS and, when replacing, install it so that it matches.

Yes, that’s what I thought but, as usual, this guy was extremely confident. Thanks for the feedback.
